I'm enjoying one of my favorite times of the day.. The siesta! Siesta is our two hour break in between our morning activity and our evening activity. I almost always post during siesta. This morning Dr. Jeff, the two Amy's and Hogan all worked in the clinic. Hogan did the translating! I heard A2 say they did something like 14 injections! One women described our group as a bouquet of flowers and called the Amy's "queens"! This afternoon they will see more patients!
Those of us who didn't work in the clinic (Kelly, Trent, Sarah, Preston, and myself) did "ropa!"
Ropa, which means clothes, is when you ride around a neighborhood yelling "¡ropa a la capilla!" Which means clothes at the chapel. This tells people to go to the chapel for free clothes. On our way to the local chapel we got stuck in the sand and had to push the van out of the sand. When we got there more than 100 women and children were waiting. We let 10 in at a time. They had about a limited time
to get 5 articles of clothing and one pair of shoes. Some of us were assigned to check and make sure they only had 5 and 1 and some of us helped watch the children and babies. It was absolute chaos but very entertaining!
This afternoon us 5 head to the market to purchase materials to build a house tomorrow.
And now we are all siting in bed just relaxing. We ask that you pray for Hogan who hasn't been feeling good. Thankfully his fever-like symptoms began before we got to Peru so we know the cause isn't from anything here.
Thanks for reading! I'm about to upload some pictures from ropa!
