Sunday Funday

Today was a day of rest and no work to be done. We started the day with mass at noon at another church close to Piura. Padre Jose performs mass at this church every Sunday. The services have been very upbeat and full of music. After we had lunch from a local restaurant and enjoyed green tamales. Part of the afternoon was spent shopping in a market area where we all found a little something Peruvian to bring home! I think we all were very pleased with the bargains we found. Later in the afternoon we visited a girls home/orphanage where we had the chance to interact with the girls. They had a surprise for us where some of the girls performed local dances for us. We all then got to dance the Macarena and dance to Shakira! We then got to present a surprise to the girls! We brought 78 OrthoKansas t-shirts to donate to the girls home and handed out shirts for the girls to wear. Many put theirs on immediately and were so excited about the new clothes. They even had bracelets and baby clothes they had made themselves to purchase. At the orphanage they have many pets and one of the dogs was named Jeffrey. The girls found it hilarious that Dr. Randall had the same name as the dog! We had an amazing Sunday Funday getting to experience more of Piura! Tomorrow we will return to working in the morning.
