Sunday in Piura

Because it is Sunday there is no work today. Kelly and I started our day bright and early with a brisk walk through town while "Beethoven " slept in

We went to Mass in a small village where the congregation size has grown from 12 to over 200 through the work of Father Uhen and American families who give interest free loans so the people can farm the land. The village is flourishing and so is the Parish.

Today is the feast of the Three Wise Men and of course there was a parade at the church and the outdoor market

We then visited a girls home where girls 8-18 live in protection from guerrilla bands which roam the mountain villages and kidnap and rape young girls. Their families drop them off and they live in a small campus protected with 20 ft walls topped with barbed wire. The girls danced with our group and we handed out t-shirts from OrthoKansas

When your nose gets sunburned and blistered you don't get chosen to dance as often!

Just a quick shot of the neighborhood

Here is the really upscale part of town......

We just got back to our dorm room where Kelly gets to enjoy her "creature comforts". Don't be fooled by the coffee mug. It's filled with Chilean red wine! She also some how managed to locate chips and salsa at the local market. Where there's a will....
